If you have ANY other choice in ISP, run from CenturyLink as fast and far as you can!

Nope, it is the only regular inet (highspeed) available out here. Besides, that modem is not on the compatible modem list anyways, any that are are = or < the cost of a yearly renting anyways. It has taken several years to get anything out here. There is already direct tv and that takes up cable lines

Ugh! I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. They're the only solution available to me as well. On the other hand, they do beat dial-up. So there is that.

Well, the dsl is up but seems to not be running at full capacity. It's supposed to be a 10meg line. Seems to be running at 756 or 1.5meg. I have ALOT of updates to get. Unless the speed picks up this might take a while

Sounds about right. You have to remember the speed that data circuits are sold at is in megabits and most downloads are in megabytes.

So a 10Mb circuit only downloads at 1.25MB per seconds at full capacity.

not really even speaking of downloads really. modem diagnostics show

Downstream Rate: 0.650 Mbps
Upstream Rate: 0.040 Mbps

and the online speed test results in .37mbs dl and .01mbs upload. I couldn't do a simple screenshot of the diagnostics. And several websites have been uber slow. something just isn't right with the service, but we do live out in the boonies. The dsl is on it's own line but I'm still wondering if there is interference from the separate phone line and the current dial-up to be cancelled.

That is really slow. I can't believe the installer left it like that.
