You could go ahead and make the Jump to 10. Its free for the first year and there's a downloader you can manually get that goes outside of windows updates. I did it on my wifes laptop with it because it kept saying her laptop wasnt ready yet.

I would not go to 10 unless it took up less space and utilized my computer better. My laptop is the one i bought back in 2007. It was taking so long because it was getting 189ish updates

I spoke too soon. it's now giving the BSOD again. I can't get a quick enough look to get an idea on the problem. It seemed to be doing fine for a bit after the 189 updates, but I did a couple updates and audio and maybe a video one, then it went caputz. I'm in safemode with networking right now

Win10 is far more efficient than Win7. It's also by far the easiest upgrade install I've ever experienced. Long ago I scratched upgrade installs in favor of a full reinstall because the upgrade process always left problems and generally was more problematic than prior to the upgrade. The upgrade to Win10 took a reboot. Granted, it took a long time to install the update prior to the reboot, but it was absolutely seamless. Once it finished, a reboot and I was running Win10. It now boots much faster, and acts much better with opening/closing the laptop screen for sleep/wake. My only gripe is that they just couldn't let go of the live tiles of Win8/8.1 on the start menu. That aside, I am really liking Win10.
