I know there is at least one Star Trek ... freak here. So CBS is putting this on their new streaming service. So I am not going to pay extra for another service just to watch one show that looks like it might make 2 seasons. MAYBE IT is cheaper on the streaming so maybe it will stick around. Thoughts?
My thought is I hope they at some point release it to Netflix. I won't get another service just for one show, even a Star Trek show.
Catch the shows initials ?
I have not been happy with the Star Trek reboots from JJ. So I don't have a lot of faith in this new show.
The broadcast companies aren't dumb. The number of Cable Cutters is growing amongst the 20 - 30 yr Olds. And those ppl are drawn to more edgier shows than what's found on CBS, NBC, and ABC. The big networks have formulas of how long seasons run and how they operate shows. And the younger generation tend to like shows that break those molds. So they realize they have to change over the next decade.
CBS is experimenting with this streaming service. But I don't think it's going to work. Their hoping the Star Trek brand will draw interest. But I don't see it working.
The big 3 broadcasters have built tremendous power in the industry. Heck, they built the industry. But Netflix, Amazon, and now Hulu are threatening their future because they exist and operate outside of the "Broadcast Industry".
Yep, definitely caught the initials... was trying to take the high ground and not make any jokes! LOL
thinking back over all the Trek Movies not just the JJ ones. There are lots of them that are not so good at all.
The Expanse is a much better Space show than lots of the Treks tried to be.
Bottom line: Star Trek has never truly been itself since Gene died, starting with the TNG Movies. It was sad because of how great the TNG TV Show was. But Rick demonstrated thru the movies that he never truly understood it.
I liked the Borg and even thou many did not like it I did like Enterprise.
CBS miscalculated when it thought it could draw big numbers by keeping this show only on this streaming platform - at least that's my opinion. Once they fail to meet the revenue they were told to expect, they'll have to find other distribution partners to try and hit their numbers. This was the plan anyway, they just thought they could grab some subscribers this way and they probably will, but I doubt in the numbers they thought or hoped.
4 million subscribers is their goal with Discovery. No one believes they'll make it now. The shows production has been wrought with issues. MovieTalk guys say this will be the 4th streaming fail by the broadcasters.
On the flipside Disney announced they're pulling out of Netflix and will be launching their own subscriber streaming service in 2018. No word yet if that will include Star Wars and Marvel properties.
Well ST:D did announce they would have a full on male on male gay relationship as a center point to some story lines. That will bring the millions of viewers they want.
They will most likely try to brow beat people into watching it. Like the people did with the new Ghostbuster Movie. They put women in the main roles and then accused anybody who did not just love the movie or being sexist. If you do not watch ST:D your a homophobe.
There is NO way they will get 4 million viewers for that show.
