Briareos there are several book series that came out with a depicting time line roughly 15-25 years after RTOJ. The one that comes to mind that might be a new good starter was a series called the young jedi knights. That set of books depicts the rebuilding of the jedi forces and the adventures that the new jedis (some offspring of old characters) go on. Once that series is complete it leads into awhole new one with an invasion from another galaxy. All very good reads and if you have time on your hands worth reading to continue the journey.

I loved the Timothy Zahn trilogy with Thrawn. I thought those would be the best 7 thru 9 solution for a long time now. Enough time has past at this point that I believe they could get away with recasting the original characters. If you don't know those books they start 10 years after Endor.

I've read pretty much all of the novels that have covered the years after ROTJ, but havent read the comics. I did look through them on the wookiepeedia page (yeah i said it right!) and it looked very interesting. Luke falls to the darkside but is able to regain the light with Leia's help.

Unfortunetly, they basically said heck with what we said before...the books are not cannon and we're basically gonna make up some new stuff going forward. So ticked. I guess there's rights issues and royalties that would have to be paid on the existing works, but they had it all laid out. Disney could have put out movies every 2 years for the next 80 years and barely scratch most of the content that's already out there.

With the age of the actors, they could easily skip a lot of those and would sadly have to. Thrawn would be a great trilogy, as would parts of the Rogue Squadron series (mini-series or live action please...HELLO!) Luke was in a few of the first one but Wedge was the main guy going forward. Sadly the actors are probably just too old to pull it off, at least in the timeline of the books. Strictly age wise, they'd probably have to go up to the Fate of the Jedi series or "maybe" the Vong invasion if they stretched it some. There's also talk that they could simply recast a young group to go forward with. One they could lock down for 3-6-9 movies like they did with the Potter group.

From what I've read, I do think though that it will still focus on Luke rebuilding the order and will probably focus on the kids which would make a nice transition. Again though, if they strictly followed the books, the kids would have already aged quite a bit. I'd still do anything to see the Vong invasion turned into a trilogy.

The Vong invasion stretched on too long in the books, they would certainly have to condense it considerably. The Thrawn trilogy is still my 1st vote. I thought they were masterfully written. And they were written under rights of Lucasfilm (as were most if not all the books) so royalties wouldn't be that big of an issue.

Wow, this is a big deal... almost as big as Disney buying Lucasfilm (maybe bigger, depending on your point of view)!!!

"When Disney films leave the theater and head for TV, they currently
go through the Starz channel first. That's going to change in 2016.
Disney has signed a deal
to give Netflix the first crack at its animated and live-action films.
Even if you're not a fan of either company, this is a bit of a big deal;
Disney is ditching a traditional pay-TV service in favor of online streaming. (It also includes properties from the recent Lucasfilm deal.)
The article wisely points out that pay-TV in general isn't in danger
until the live sports situation changes, but this is a big step away
from the status quo."
